Madeira is a World Leading Island Destination

For the first time, Madeira Islands won a World Travel Awards prize and became a World Leading Island Destination in a ceremony held back on the 12th of December, at El Jadida, Morocco.
Despite the existing competition from islands destinations such as Bali, Barbados, Crete, the Cook Islands, Jamaica, the Maldives, Mauritius, St. Lucia, Sardinia, the Seychelles, Sicily and Zanzibar, Madeira Islands was able to win the award which, on yearly basis, recognizes the excellence and outstanding brands and locations in the tourism industry, from all over the world.
Madeira, Destination of Excellence
Knowned as the "oscars of turism", the World Travel Awards are granted based on the on-line votes of the general public and profissionals of the turism market.
The Regional Secretary of Economy, Turism and Culture states that "Madeira did a great job appealing to votes on social networks and other digital platforms, through campaigns and spotlight publicities regarding this objective". It also enhances the fact that world renowned soccer player, Cristiano Ronaldo, who himself is a Madeiran native, through his social networks contributed greatly to this fantastic achievement.
